At Go With The Flo Adventures, we are passionate about Outer Banks sailing and everything that comes with it. There's nothing quite like the feeling of being out on the water with the wind and the waves around you. We want to share that feeling with others through our sailing classes and help them discover the joys of sailing with our sailing courses.

We believe in taking a holistic approach to Outer Banks sailing, which means focusing not just on the technical aspects of sailing but also on the mental and emotional aspects. Our sailing classes emphasize that sailing can be a great way to reduce stress, connect with nature, and find inner peace. We aim to help our students learn and master the skills to relax and sail confidently as captain or crew through our comprehensive sailing courses.

At Go With The Flo Adventures, we are part of a vibrant and supportive sailing community in the Outer Banks. We believe that sailing is more than just a solo activity – through teamwork and communication in our sailing classes and sailing courses, it's a way to connect with others and build lasting friendships.

Go With The Flo Adventures is located on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. Our fleet is berthed at Marshes Light Marina on Roanoke Island in the town of Manteo, the site of the first English settlement in the New World - 1587. Surrounded by the Roanoke, Croatan, Pamlico, and Albemarle Sounds, our sailing grounds are extensive and include numerous anchorages and towns to explore before, during, and after your sailing classes.
The Outer Banks of North Carolina are renowned for their windy conditions. Prevailing winds typically come from the southwest or northeast and usually range from 10 to 13 knots. These ideal conditions were pivotal as the Wright Brothers developed powered flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903. Numerous wind-dependent sports and activities are also enjoyed throughout the Outer Banks, including hang gliding, windsurfing, kite surfing, wing surfing, and more recently, wind, kite, and wing foiling. Of course, the warm water and mild, windy climate create the perfect environment for learning to sail!
Your Captain, Teacher, and Coach during your lessons is a career educator (retired) who has combined his passion for teaching and sailing to help you achieve your sailing goals. Captain Greg holds an OUPV US Coast Guard License and a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership. He is certified to teach ASA 101 through 118 sailing courses and takes great joy in helping each student master the skills and knowledge needed to be a competent and safe skipper or crew.
We meet each student where they are, both in knowledge and skill level. Once new skills are mastered, we quickly progress to more advanced activities. We balance classroom time with practical time on the water, with about 25% of the sailing classes being classroom or dryland, and the remaining 75% being on-the-water practice.
Each class is taught with the understanding that the student has reviewed and studied the course material from the class textbook prior to the first day. This “flipped classroom” approach allows our instruction to move quickly, enhances learning and retention, and maximizes your time on the water.
Our school is open seven months a year, from April to October, to take advantage of the warm temperatures and abundant lodging options. Rental homes, Airbnb, hotels, and camping sites are all available within a short drive of our base at Marshes Light Marina in Manteo, NC, on Roanoke Island.
